“Meet Elisabeth”
—Self-publisher, author, Reiki practitioner and compassionate companion.
Elisabeth Engert
Hello, I’m Elisabeth Engert — an End-of-Life Doula, self-publisher, author, Reiki practitioner, and compassionate companion.
My path to this work has been shaped by many chapters of my life — from years in banking and real estate to deeply personal experiences with caregiving, grief, and healing. Each season of my journey has strengthened my belief that life’s final chapter deserves to be met with dignity, love, and presence.
Alongside end-of-life support, I also help individuals move through the ever-shifting landscape of grief. Whether someone is navigating a recent loss or carrying long-held sorrow, I offer gentle grief coaching rooted in understanding and connection. I host grief walks, grief cafés, and workshops that create safe, welcoming spaces for people to share, reflect, and breathe a little easier — even in the midst of heartache.
As a doula, I walk beside individuals and families through the emotional, spiritual, and practical realities of end-of-life. This support can look like helping someone create a legacy project, guiding families through tender conversations, or simply offering a steady, peaceful presence at a bedside. My role isn’t to fix or rush anything, but to hold space with gentleness and empathy so that every story, every moment, and every goodbye can be honoured.
I also bring the calming tools of Reiki and holistic care into my work, offering comfort that goes beyond words and helps soothe the nervous system during times of stress, overwhelm, or deep transition.
When I’m not supporting families, you’ll often find me writing. I’m the author of books that explore healing, caregiving, prayer, and end-of-life planning — all written with the same heart that guides my doula work. Writing and teaching allow me to share what I’ve learned, and continue to learn, about love, resilience, and the power of human connection.
More than anything, I want those I walk beside to know this: you are not alone. You don’t need perfect words or answers. You only need to be real. Together, we’ll find comfort, meaning, and peace in whatever this chapter holds.
If you’d like to learn more about how I can support you or your family, I’d be honoured to connect with you.

What is a Death Doula?
A death doula, sometimes called an end-of-life doula, is a compassionate companion who provides emotional, practical, and spiritual support during life’s final chapter. Much like a birth doula supports new life coming into the world, a death doula supports individuals and families as they navigate the end of life.
This role is not medical, but deeply personal. A death doula helps to:
• Create space for open and honest conversations about dying, death, and grief.
• Offer comfort and presence to both the person nearing death and their loved ones.
• Support families in planning rituals, legacy projects, or meaningful ways to honor life.
• Provide guidance with practical matters such as advance care planning and end-of-life wishes.
• Walk alongside loved ones after a loss with gentle grief support.
At its heart, death doula work is about bringing dignity, peace, and connection to a time that is often overwhelming. It is about ensuring no one has to face the journey alone.
