“Meet Elisabeth”
—Self-publisher, author, Reiki practitioner and compassionate companion.
Elisabeth Engert
Hello, I’m Elisabeth Engert - an End-of-Life Doula, self-publisher, author, Reiki practitioner and compassionate companion.
My path to this work has been shaped by many chapters of my life - from a career in banking and real estate to my personal experiences with caregiving, grief, and healing. Each step has deepened my belief that life’s final chapter deserves to be approached with dignity, love, and presence.
As a doula, I walk beside individuals and families as they navigate the emotional, spiritual, and practical realities of end-of-life. Whether it’s helping someone create a legacy project, guiding a family through difficult conversations, or simply offering a calm presence at a bedside, my role is to support with gentleness, empathy, and steadiness.
I also bring tools from my background in Reiki and holistic care, offering comfort that reaches beyond words. My work is not about fixing or rushing the process; it’s about creating space where every story, every breath, and every goodbye can be honoured.
When I’m not supporting families, you’ll often find me writing. I’m the author of books that explore healing, caregiving, prayer, and end-of-life planning, written with the same heart that guides my doula work. Writing and teaching are integral to how I share what I’ve learned, and continue to learn, about love, resilience, and the beauty of human connection.
Most of all, I want those I walk beside to know this: you are not alone. You don’t need the perfect words or answers. You only need to be real. And together, we’ll find comfort, meaning, and peace in whatever this chapter holds.
If you’d like to learn more about how I can support you or your family, I’d be honoured to connect with you.
What is a Death Doula?
A death doula, sometimes called an end-of-life doula, is a compassionate companion who provides emotional, practical, and spiritual support during life’s final chapter. Much like a birth doula supports new life coming into the world, a death doula supports individuals and families as they navigate the end of life.
This role is not medical, but deeply personal. A death doula helps to:
• Create space for open and honest conversations about dying, death, and grief.
• Offer comfort and presence to both the person nearing death and their loved ones.
• Support families in planning rituals, legacy projects, or meaningful ways to honor life.
• Provide guidance with practical matters such as advance care planning and end-of-life wishes.
• Walk alongside loved ones after a loss with gentle grief support.
At its heart, death doula work is about bringing dignity, peace, and connection to a time that is often overwhelming. It is about ensuring no one has to face the journey alone.
